5 Types of Crypto Degens (Which One Are You?)
"Degen" is one word covering a lot of very different behavior. Some hunt fresh meme coin launches, some live inside DeFi dashboards, some haven't sold an NFT since 2021. Here are five recognizable types — most people are a mix of at least two.
1. The Meme Coin Sniper
Lives on new-pair scanners, moves in minutes, and has a mental stopwatch for how long it's safe to hold a fresh launch before the odds flip against them. Wins big occasionally, loses small often, and treats both as the cost of doing business.
2. The DeFi Farmer
Spends more time comparing APYs across protocols than most people spend on their actual job. Understands impermanent loss better than most financial advisors, and has at least one browser tab permanently open to a yield tracker.
3. The NFT Flipper
Still checking floor prices out of habit, even on collections that stopped mattering years ago. Talks about "utility" and "the roadmap" with a straight face, and has a wallet full of jpegs that used to be worth a down payment.
4. The Chart Addict
Draws trendlines on everything, including charts that clearly don't need them. Technically does more research than most degens, but somehow still ends up making the same impulsive plays — just with better-looking charts to justify them afterward.
5. The Bag Holder in Denial
Still holding the position from eighteen months ago, still calling it "a long-term hold," still hasn't opened the app to check the actual number in weeks.
